DISSOLVING MENTHOL CRYSTALS — PRACTICAL GUIDANCE

Menthol Crystals have a melting point of 42°C — they dissolve readily with gentle heat in oils and alcohols.

In oil-phase formulations (balms, lip balms, muscle rubs, soap):

Add crystals to your warm oil/butter/wax phase above 42°C. They dissolve completely in liquid carrier oils, coconut oil, shea butter, and most waxes. For cold process soap, dissolve in a small amount of warm carrier oil first, then add to the oils phase before lye addition.

In alcohol-based formulations (toners, sprays):

Menthol crystals dissolve freely in ethanol and isopropyl alcohol at room temperature with stirring. Pre-dissolve at 10–30% in alcohol and add this solution to your formulation.

In propylene glycol:

Dissolve at 5–10% in warm propylene glycol for incorporation into water-based gels and water-phase formulations.

In bath bombs and shower steamers:
