Carnauba Wax Lip Balm Recipe
The plant-powered alternative to beeswax — ultra-shiny, firm, long-lasting, and 100% vegan.
Jump to RecipeIf you love the shine and staying power of beeswax lip balm but want a fully vegan option, carnauba wax is your new best friend. This naturally hard, high-gloss plant wax creates lip balms that glide on smoothly, stay put all day, and give that coveted “glass-like” finish — all without animal products.
Carnauba wax (pronounced car-now-ba) is harvested from the leaves of the Copernicia prunifera palm that grows only in northeastern Brazil. The leaves are dried and beaten to release tiny pale-yellow flakes that are then refined into the golden wax we use in cosmetics.
Key Facts:
• Highest melting point of all natural waxes: 82–86 °C
• Gives exceptional gloss and hardness
• 100 % vegan & cruelty-free
• Compatible with all cosmetic oils
• Approved for lip products worldwide
Weigh carnauba wax, shea butter, coconut oil, and castor oil. Melt together gently (max 85 °C) using a double boiler.

Remove from heat. Stir in vitamin E and essential/flavour oil. Mix thoroughly.

Pour into tubes or tins while still liquid (around 65–70 °C). Work quickly — carnauba sets fast!

Let cool completely (1–2 hours). Cap and label. Ready to use immediately!
Pro Tip: For extra shine, increase castor oil to 12 g and reduce coconut oil by the same amount.
