What is Walnut Shell Powder made from?
100% natural walnut shell (Juglans regia L.), milled and graded to 40-60 mesh, with nothing added.
What particle size is it?
40-60 mesh, a medium-coarse granule. At least 95% of the powder passes a 40 mesh screen and no more than 5% passes a 60 mesh screen.
Can I use it in soap making?
Yes, it's a popular natural exfoliant for scrub bars. Add it at light trace and stir through to suspend the granules evenly. Trial a small batch first.
Is it safe for tree nut allergies?
No. It's made from walnut shell, a tree nut, so it's not suitable for anyone with a tree nut allergy. Consider this when labelling and selling your finished products.
Is it suitable for facial scrubs?
The 40-60 mesh grade is medium-coarse and angular, so we recommend it for body, hand and foot products. For facial use, consider a finer grade.
Will it dissolve or soften in my product?
No. It's insoluble in water and holds its texture, which is what gives it exfoliating power. In thin liquid bases the granules may settle, so use a thickened or butter-based formula.
How should I store it?
In a tight, light-resistant container, away from direct sunlight, moisture and excessive heat. Shelf life is 24 months when stored in the original packaging.
