How It Works

Squalane is a saturated, hydrogenated form of squalene — a lipid naturally produced by human skin. Because its molecular structure closely mimics our own skin's natural oils, it's readily absorbed and biocompatible. Squalane forms a light, breathable film on the skin surface, helping to reduce trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) while remaining non-comedogenic and non-greasy. Its high stability against oxidation (unlike its precursor squalene) means it resists rancidity and has excellent shelf stability in finished formulations.

Usage Rates

• Facial serums/oils: 5–100% (can be used neat as a facial oil)
• Moisturisers/creams: 3–10%
• Hair serums/oils: 5–20%
• Lip balms/butters: 5–15%
• Cleansing oils/balms: 10–30%

Squalane blends easily with other oils, esters, and butters and can be incorporated into the oil phase of emulsions or used as a standalone finishing oil.
