What is Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil made from?
100% pure Cinnamomum verum (syn. Cinnamomum zeylanicum) oil, steam distilled from the dried inner bark, with no additives or dilution.
What does it smell like?
A strong, very warm, diffusive, spicy-sweet and penetrating cinnamon aroma. It's a middle note, and a little goes a long way.
Can I use it on my skin straight from the bottle?
No. It's supplied undiluted as a concentrated aromatic ingredient and is classified as a skin irritant and skin sensitiser in concentrate form. It must be diluted within the IFRA limits for your product type, and a patch test is essential.
How much can I use in my products?
It depends on the product. IFRA allows up to 20% in candles (Category 12) and 2.5% in soap, shampoo and body wash (Category 9), but leave-on skin products are tightly capped — for example 0.40% in body lotion and hand cream, 0.20% in face moisturiser and lip products, and just 0.07% in baby products and underarm products. Always check the category for your finished product.
Can I use it in soap and candle making?
Yes — it's a popular warm, spicy note for both. Stay within the IFRA limit for your category and test a small batch first, as the aroma is very strong.
How should I store it?
Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat, and out of reach of children. If stored for more than 36 months, check the quality before use.
