Product Safety
  • Always dilute in a suitable carrier oil or base before any skin contact — never apply undiluted — and always patch test a diluted blend before wider use, given the Category 1 skin sensitiser classification
  • Wear chemical resistant gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses with side shields (or goggles) when handling the concentrate; avoid breathing vapour; wash thoroughly after handling
  • Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources — no smoking; take precautions against static discharge when handling in bulk
  • Store in a tightly closed container in a cool, well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children; avoid strong oxidising agents
  • Skin contact: remove contaminated clothing and wash skin thoroughly with soap and water for several minutes; seek medical advice if irritation or rash occurs
  • Eye contact: rinse cautiously with water for several minutes, removing contact lenses if present and easy to do; seek medical attention if irritation persists
  • Inhalation: if breathing is difficult, move to fresh air and call a physician if symptoms persist
  • If swallowed: do not induce vomiting; rinse mouth with water (only if the person is conscious) and call a physician or poison control centre immediately (Australia Poisons Information Centre: 13 11 26)

FAQs

Questions

What is Anise Essential Oil made from?
100% pure Pimpinella anisum seed oil, extracted by steam distillation, with no additives or dilution.

What does it smell like?
An intensely spicy-sweet, characteristic licorice-like aroma. It's classed as a top to middle note.

Is this oil ready to use, or does it need to be diluted?
It's supplied undiluted as a concentrated aromatic ingredient. It must be diluted in a suitable carrier oil or base before any skin contact, and always patch tested first — it carries a Category 1 skin sensitiser classification in concentrate form.

Can I use it in soap and candle making?
Yes. IFRA allows up to 4.78% in soap, shampoo and body wash (Category 9) and up to 62.76% in candles (Category 12). Always check the category for your finished product and your total fragrance load.

Can I use it in lip balm or baby products?
IFRA limits are very low for these — 0.90% for lip products (Category 1) and baby creams, oils and talc (Category 5D). Please follow the limit for your specific product category.

How should I store it?
Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat, and out of reach of children. If stored for more than 36 months, check quality before use.
